Dwejra, Gozo

The west coast of Gozo is famous for the Azure Window and Inland Sea, but also provides some stunning walking country.

Azure Window, GozoMarsalforn to Azure Window. We took the 322 bus to Marsalforn and set off in a north-west directtion following the coast through Qbajjar and on past a long stretch of salt pans. When the road turned south towards Zebbug we took a right turn along a narrow path leading to the narrow inlet of Wied Ghasri. We followed the valley until we found a spot where we could easily cross and then turned along the west of the valley still following the coast. Our next stop was at Wied Il-Mielah where we descended some newly installed steps to photograph the spectacular rock arch. We continued to walk as close to the coast as we could, at times having to skirt valleys or climb a little higher where the path became too difficult to follow, eventually turning south, past the westernmost point of the Maltese islands. Finally we spotted the Azure Window in the distance and took the rough path that led us above the Inland Sea. We descended the steep path to arrive at Dwejra and the Azure Window where we caught the 302 bus to Victoria.
Total time: around 3 hours.
