Red Tower, near MelliehaThe village of Mellieha, now a small town with several hotels, stands high above Malta's largest sandy beach: Ghadira (Mellieha) Bay. Its beautiful church and sanctuary dominate the surrounding countryside.

It is also the administrative centre for a large area of rural north Malta, surrounded by the longest stretch of coastline in Malta and containing miles of great walking country, particularly Marfa Ridge and Selmun penisula. There are several sandy beaches nearby, notably Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha, Armier Bay and Paradise Bay. Also nearby is Anchor Bay with its Popeye Village.
